Parent to Parent was established by a group of parents seeking peer support. The formation of Parent to Parent allowed families throughout Queensland to access vital support and resources. After twenty-six years, the organisation continues to prioritise support among parents sharing similar experiences. Additionally, Parent to Parent proudly supports self-advocates with intellectual disabilities through the Loud and Clear Qld Self-advocacy group and Stand by Me peer support groups.
The Parent to Parent story was and is personal, having started when a small group of parents decided that the best providers of support were other parents. The establishment of a formal organisation allowed for peer support, information and resources to be provided across Queensland.
Twenty-six years later, Parent to Parent remains an organisation that supports parents by parents who have walked a similar path. We are proud that our work includes supporting self-advocates with intellectual disabilities through peer support groups.
We offer small workshops, individual information sessions, and access to resources on a wide range of topics from navigating NDIS plans to what you need to know when you’re becoming an adult.
Looking to the future we remain committed to advocating for the rights of people with intellectual disabilities and their families to feel empowered, supported, and connected.
We encourage and welcome you to join us as we work to expand the information session topics, reach more families, and continue to build the capacity of people with intellectual disability through self-advocacy and peer groups.
