Stronger Steps Together (SST) is a new initiative designed to do exactly that, delivering foundational supports that help people with disability and their families build essential skills and capacity, connect with peers who understand their journey, and access the education and information they need to navigate life’s decisions with confidence. By strengthening these building blocks; skill development, peer connection, and knowledge sharing, this project helps people with disability grow their independence, advocate for themselves, understand their rights, and take greater control over their own futures.

It’s about more than services; it’s about creating the foundation for a fuller, more connected, and self-determined life.

Replacing the previous Stand by Me and ad hoc support model, Stronger Steps Together brings a more connected, purposeful approach to foundational support across the disability sector.

All P2P peer groups and events/activities are designed and led by people with lived experience of disability and navigating the disability sector.

What’s on offer as part of SST

  • Peer Support Groups – A welcoming space to meet others, share lived experience, and build lasting connections and support networks.
  • Skills Workshops – Practical sessions on self-advocacy, decision-making, understanding your rights and other topics that are important to people with disability and their families.

  • Future Planning & Inclusive Events – Person-centred planning that puts your personal goals and aspirations first.
  • Leadership & Employment Pathways – Real opportunities to grow, contribute, and lead within the community.
