A local self-advocacy group giving voice to change
Speak Up in the Bush is a self-advocacy group bringing our local community together for vibrant, inclusive conversation. It’s a space where people with intellectual disability, neurodivergent people, people with learning disability, families, carers and supporters can meet, share experiences, and help shape what self-advocacy looks like in the region.
Self-advocacy is about having the confidence and skills to speak up and advocate for yourself or a family member to share your views, make your own decisions, and be heard on what matters most in your life. As a self-advocacy group, Speak Up in the Bush creates a welcoming, judgement-free space to build these skills together and connect with others on a similar journey.
Self advocacy matters because it underpins choice and control, understanding your rights, and actively taking part in community life. By bringing people together locally, Speak Up in the Bush helps break down isolation and build a stronger, more confident self-advocacy movement in regional and rural areas.
Whether you’re new to self-advocacy or have been speaking up for years, everyone has something to contribute, and everyone is welcome.
